We need a web developer

Posted: March 18 2010 in News, People

We are looking for a talented Web Developer with a good track record of developing accessible websites, using both hand-crafted HTML. The role of Front End Developer requires the use of technologies such as HTML, XHTML, JavaScript, CSS and strong Photoshop experience is also required.

Predominantly we need you to have excellent production skills, but you will also be required to set up and integrate templates with Content Management Systems, so a little PHP and MYSQL would be handy!

This is a technical role so you must enjoy web coding rather than web design and you must be able to provide proof in your portfolio that you have done this type of work before. This is a great opportunity for a Front End Developer looking to further their career.

The role holder will take responsibility of producing web solutions, including websites/intranets, campaign led microsites, HTML emails, Flash banners etc.

We are a close knit team, and it’s essential you can bring something to the table in terms of personality and enthusiasm. A CAN DO ATTITUDE IS ESSENTIAL. You must also be able to make a decent cup of tea and crack bad jokes!

Anyone interested call Ben Hall on 0114 270 3500.

Charity starts at home…or should that be work?

Posted: November 27 2009 in News, People

We’re game for a laugh at Iris, as you may have gathered, and all the boys at Iris were (initially) excited at the prospect of getting involved in this year’s Movember. That is, until they realised that actually meant growing and having a moustache (on their face!) for an entire month!

Not ones to be uncharitable, they roped a more game, slightly more gullible fellow to do the dirty work for them. Enter Michael Barker, top software tester at Applied Cytometry; our medical software specialist client over in Dinnington but also loving (and rather spruce) fiancée of our very own Stephanie, Project Manager extraordinaire.

Going forward our role will encompass all of the utility company’s communications activities and we’re looking forward to helping them meet the challenges that all water and sewerage companies are facing over the next few years. Help us give money to rural Yorkshire businesses

yf-banner

Iris have been asked by Yorkshire Forward to come up with promotional campaign to promote three potential funding streams (worth £63 million over next 5 years) to rurally based businesses in Yorkshire.

The Background
Essentially there is a pot of money that’s being made available to a wide range of rurally based businesses in our region, and we want to make sure that everyone who is eligible for the funding knows about it. If your business is in a rural area, or if you work closely with food producers, you could be eligible for funding from The Rural Development Programme for England.

There are three different types of funding depending on the kind of business activity you’re involved in and what stage your business is at — click the links below for further details. And just in case you were wondering, you don’t need to be running a farm to be eligible — any business that’s based in a rural postcode can apply.

The Solution
Firstly we have made a rather nifty online database that lets you see if you are eligible — why not check it out to see if you can apply for a grant?

“How are you promoting this?” I hear you shout. Well, without a huge advertising budget to splash out on a TV ad we decided to do something a little bit different and rely on your good nature and ambition for the region (yes that’s right, YOUR good nature!).

We have produced a raft of marketing materials to promote the funding and ask that you include some of it in your next set of communications – whether it’s a banner on your website, a printed letter that you send out to members or customers or an email into which you include a snippet of text about the funding. In short, if you’ve got the space we’ve got something that’ll fit it!

Our big 18th birthday bash

Posted: October 15 2009 in News, People

Happy Birthday to us!

Happy Birthday to us!

It’s 18 years since a young, fresh faced David and Maria first joined forces to found Iris. To mark this auspicious event we did what all 18 year olds do… hit the town. Our coming of age capers kicked off in the unlikely surroundings of a Little Chef on the A64 just outside York. No ordinary Little Chef this, though. The York restaurant is one of a new and exciting breed of Little Chefs to be revamped by Michelin-starred celebrity chef, Heston Blumenthal. Iris were heavily involved in the rebranding, so the evening was also a great opportunity to see our work in all its glory and (for some of us) to sample the new menu for the first time.

After some excellent food (the steak was a popular and superb choice) and the presentation of the cake, we went on to York to a bar. Then another bar. Then another bar. And then a club (I think). Read the full post…

Culture shock… we did it!

The government has just announced plans to create a new UK City of Culture initiative in 2013. And what better advertisement for Sheffield’s credentials for the role than the fact that the brand design for the initiative was created right here in Sheffield by Iris.

Iris were shortlisted for this prestigious assignment in June and went on to win a 3-way pitch after submitting a range of designs and ideas for the project. The chosen identity incorporates two ‘C’s, one contained within the other, to symbolise the part that cultural excellence plays within a city. Read the full post…

Spicing up alumni communications

Posted: June 18 2009 in News, Work

Henderson

Taste and smell are the two senses that are usually ignored in marketing communications. Yet, used with a bit of imagination and flair they can be incredibly powerful. Catch the whiff of an aroma or a familiar taste and you can be instantly transported back to a specific time in your life. So, when our clients at The University of Sheffield wanted to mail out something a bit different to their alumni we suggested they send a little bit of Sheffield in a bottle. Our solution was a neat ‘A Taste of Sheffield’ box containing a bottle of the sublimely spicy Sheffield delicacy, Henderson’s Relish, together with a dinky little Henderson’s Relish recipe book. The idea was to capture their attention with a whiff of nostalgia about wintry Sheffield student nights, bags of chips and steaming hot pies enlivened by a splash of Hendersons that would make them want to stay in touch with the university and support their ongoing alumni campaign. The pack also serves a secondary purpose as a quirky giveaway to important visitors to the university and as an unusual gift at international events.

Little Chef on the menu

menus

The new menus we designed for Little Chef are hot off the press. We’re currently working on a review of the Little Chef brand and the new menus are a taste (see what I did there!) of what’s to come. We wanted the menus to start to reflect some of the personality of the direction the brand is moving in. It’s about Britishness and being playful, which is what Charlie (that’s the name for the character in the logo) stands for. We chose to have different images on the covers to evoke what the British summer means to people. Inside, a series of menu icons have been designed to highlight key new dishes and provenance. Lots more to come on this as the brand begins to roll out.

Linking up with Business Link again

Posted: June 18 2009 in News, Wins

After gaining a coveted place on Business Link’s roster of agencies for the first time last year, there’s been a flurry of ‘WOOHOO!’ style emails round the office after we heard our re-tender to be on their roster for the next 12 months has been successful.

The news means the government funded business support, advice and information service can call on Iris for a wide range of services, from direct marketing and online to photography, events, print buying, mailhouse services, telemarketing, literature and stationery supplies.
