We’re delighted (if not a little surprised… but not as surprised as Michelle must be) to announce that Iris’s Michelle Rigby gave birth to a baby girl called Holly in the early hours of this morning.  Holly weighs in at just over 2 lbs at the moment because she was in such a hurry to be born she arrived TEN WEEKS EARLY! Mum and baby are both reported to be doing well and little Holly is breathing on her own. We’ll post some pictures as soon as we’ve got some.

The girls in studio started this little project 20 working days ago as they thought it would be funny and interesting to document the wonderful array of graphic T-shirts worn by our very own top artworker, Sally, Erm… suppose you had to be there?

David, David and Maria pose outside our new look office

Our offices are looking pretty tasty now. But not quite as tasty as this nifty gingerbread house (Tesco £9.99) that Sally and Nic knocked up during yesterday lunchtime when they were bored. Sadly, their masterpiece has nearly all been eaten now and looks more like a bomb damaged building in wartime London.

We’ve been undergoing a bit of a refurb here at Cornish Place. The sticky old lino has been replaced by smart dark grey carpet tiles, we’ve all got spanking new desks and we’ve filled several skips with Creative Reviews dating back to the mid eighties and old Comstock photolibrary books full of images of businesspeople with big hair high-fiving each other outside glossy office buildings. It’s just like that round here at Cornish Place at lunchtime. The builders are currently in the process of creating two meeting spaces downstairs and we hope it’ll all be finished in the next week or two.

In the process of the clear-out we unearthed a few priceless items: in particular a Leo Sayer song book (may his perm never wilt), a rubber chicken (sadly too perished to save) and some photographs of David and Maria back in the dark ages when they started Iris. They both look about Credit union fourteen years old.

Iris puts on 37 stone 6 pounds

There may be a gym in the Cornish Place development where our offices are located (well, that’s the rumour anyway), but we’ve put on some considerable weight recently. And, contrary to what you might expect, we’re actually rather chuffed about it.

In recent weeks we’ve added quite a few inches to our collective waistline with the arrival of three new recruits:

Ben Hall 13 stone 2 pounds

Account handling heavyweight, Ben Hall has now joined Iris as Senior Account Director. He brings a wealth of experience in design and digital applications with him. Ben previously worked at Story in London, where he handled accounts as diverse as Silvercross and E*Trade. Before that, he worked across the pond at The Wonderfactory in New York. Ben’s primary role will be to head up our growing client services team and he’ll be working directly on Yorkshire Forward, Cogent, The University of Hertfordshire and Royal Mail.

Steve Doyle 13 stone 4 pounds

We’ve also recruited our very first Head of Copy, Steve Doyle. Steve previously worked for Dig For Fire in Sheffield where he was Creative Group Head and senior writer on some pretty hefty accounts including HSBC, The Co-operative Bank, Tesco, Travis Perkins, Engage Mutual Assurance and Budget Insurance.

Andy Young 11 stone

Finally, we’re also very pleased to announce that following a placement, Andy Young has joined us as a designer. Andy is a graduate from Sheffield Hallam University and although this will be his first ‘proper’ job as a designer he certainly punches above his weight in design terms.

..or ‘The Oldest and the Greatest’ to you and me!

The Creative Director at Iris, David Wood, went and got all creative on us and along with photographer Simon Phipps and friend John Simpson at SEA is working on producing an amazing book about the relationship between the oldest football club and the greatest football club in the world. This is of course Sheffield FC & Real Madrid, the only two clubs in the world to be honoured with a FIFA order of merit!

More importantly this gives him the chance to swan off to Madrid every now and then to do ‘research’. Interestingly one time he was there he bumped into an old friend, David Beckham (he’s the one in the middle). I looked all over Beckhams site and couldn’t find this picture?!

Anyway it looks amazing and should be on the shelves soon, so watch this space.
